Black bears are usually still in their dens at this point in time. Momma bears will have given birth to their cubs in/around January and will emerge from the dens usually in April to early May. Cubs will stay with their moms until they are around 1 1/2 years old, at which time she will usually chase them off, so she can begin mating season again.
